Sassafras Studio has ideal northern lighting and is located in the delightful, rolling countryside of historic Brookeville, Md

  

All classes include Art Appreciation, Art History,  
Drawing and Watercolor Painting techniques

   

 Classes are held on Thursday at the following times:

12:00-1:30pm, 2:00-3:30 and 3:45-5:15pm 

These classes introduce a variety of materials and cover texture, color, line, and tone.  Drawing and watercolor classes lay a foundation for a lifetime exploration of creativity and a love for art, and art history.  The fundamentals of materials, line, shading, perspective, figure, still-life, landscape and collage, using a variety of subject matter.  Art history and higher-level critical thinking is developed. In-class group critiques help build critical learning skills and improve attention to detail.  Use of nontoxic, high quality materials include charcoal, oil and dry pastels, graphite, conte crayon, colored, oil watercolor pencils and pan watercolor pigments, markers and ink.  Both art history and appreciation are incorporated into lessons.

Students Age 5-9

$15 for 1-1.5 hrs

Students Age 10+

$20 for 1.5 hour class 

  Homeschool Children

$15 for 1.5 hour class

       

Individual Adult or Teen Art Lessons

1.5 hour Classes

$25 for 1.5 hr

Students bring a 10"x11" 100 lb+ weight, multi-media sketchpad

Create Your Own Class or
Join an Existing One!

 Assemble your own class with friends or family.

 Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced Drawing, Watercolor or Acrylic

   (Includes use of drawing mediums, palettes, paper and paint).

Existing Classes:

Mixed Media, Drawing and Watercolor (ages 12+)

Ten Weeks; begins Friday, Sept. 11

4:30-6PM, $25 a class payable on the first class
b.y.o. sketchpad

Drawing and Painting in Acrylics or Oil (ages 14 to adult)

Open Class-sign-up for any length of time from 10am-12 noon
begins Sept. 12, $25 a class
b.y.o. sketchpads, paints and canvasses, as needed

Basic Drawing and Watercolor (ages 5-9)

Ten Weeks: Begins Wednesday, Sept. 16

1-2:15pm, $20 a class, payable on the first class

Create Your Own Class:

Level 0 (age 2-4) Five, 1 hr. classes ($50) 
 Level 1  (age 4-7) Six, 1 hr. classes ($60 + $10 materials fee) 
Level 2  (age 8-10) Eight, 1.5 hr. classes ($125 + $15 materials fee) 
Level 3  (age 10+) Ten, 2 hr. classes) $185 + $15 materials fee)
(Six kids per class; ages are estimates of maturity and level of experience)

   

 Drawing from the Right Side of the Brain (teens and adults)

   (Eight, 1.5 hr. classes; $140 + $10 materials fee)

  Exercise both sides of the brain in the act of creation.

    Drawing and Painting from the Masters - learn from one of your favorite artists by copying their   work - all ages and levels (Ten, 2 hr. classes) ($150 + $10 materials fee)

 Art-themed birthday parties in a real studio! Maximum 10 kids ($150 for 2 hours)
(BYO cake and Ice cream)

Home School Class Offerings: class outlined in previous 2010 post 

(Dates and times on a case-by-case basis)

   Calligraphy for children and adults (12-adult); Six classes ($90; with your pens and paper)

  One-on-one sessions of painting or drawing from life (or photo) ($25 hr.)

- One-on-one sessions of painting and drawing from life (or photo) ($25 hr.)

 

I also take commissions for faux furniture painting, landscape or portrait canvases in oil and acrylics, and drawings in many mediums.
